Home made glue: tapioca starch

Assalamualaikum kids,

Schooling here is so much fun. the kids enjoying all the art and craft while learning. Having to do lots of arts and crafts means that we will need a lots of glue. Therefore, ummi decided to make our own glue from tapioca starch. Ummi still remember Tok Mak used to make home made glue for me when I was very young. Now we will make our own. Today, you kids are enjoying making your own glue, :)

These are the recipes:

  • 1 Pour water into the sauce pan and bring the water to a boil. You will require approximately twice as much boiling water as tapioca starch in your glue.
  • 2 Combine equal parts tapioca starch and room temperature water in a bowl.
  • 3 Stir the mixture together until the starch and water form a smooth, even mixture. The mixture will be liquid, not gluelike, and slightly milky in color.
  • 4 Remove the boiling water from the stove and slowly pour the water into the bowl to avoid splashing. Do not pour the entire boiling pot in at once -- pour approximately one-quarter of the remaining contents of the pan each time you pour.
  • 5 Stir the contents of the bowl after each pouring. The boiling water will cause the paste to thicken as you stir.
  • 6 Continue adding a portion of the boiling water, then stirring, until your mixture has taken on a pastelike consistency.

    Ayam percik sate

    AYAM PERCIK
    ( Sumber : Hjh Saodah Mohd Salleh )

    Bahan Utama
    1 ekor ayam, cuci bersih, potong 8 atau ikut suka hati dan toskan

    Rempah Perapan Ayam
    2 sudu makan ketumbar biji
    1 sudu makan jintan putih
    1 sudu makan jintan manis
    1/2 jari halia
    1/2 jari kunyit hidup
    2 batang serai
    5 ulas bawang putih
    gula dan garam secukup rasa
    (Semua bahan dikisar halus dan diperap dengan kepingan ayam, selama 2 hingga 3 jam)

    Bahan Kuah
    1/2 kg kacang tanah, digoreng kekuning-kuningan dan dikisar halus
    1/2 biji kelapa parut, perah 1½ mangkuk santan
    1/2 cawan cili boh
    1 batang serai, dititik
    1/2 jari lengkuas, dititik
    2 biji bawang besar }
    5 biji bawang putih }..... dikisar halus
    4 biji buah keras }
    Minyak untuk menumis
    Garam dan gula secukup rasa

    CARA BUAT KUAH
    Panaskan minyak. Tumis bahan kisar (iaitu bawang besar, bawang putih dan buah keras) sehingga garing dan wangi. Masukkan cili boh, serai, lengkuas dan kacau sampai rata sehingga bau kuahnya, semakin mewangi. Barulah dituangkan santan, gula dan garam secukup rasa. Masak lagi sehingga mendidih. Kecilkan api. Masukkan pula kacang tanah dan masaklah supaya kuahnya pekat sedikit.

    CARA MEMANGGANG
    Ayam yang diperap, dicucuk atau disepit dengan buluh. Kemudian dipanggang diatas bara api yang sederhana panasnya. Boleh juga dipanggang didalam ketuhar. Panggang sehingga 3/4 masak. Seterusnya jirus dengan kuah, atau digolek-golekkan didalam kuah supaya ayamnya bersalut rata dengan kuah. Seterusnya ayam tersebut, dipanggang lagi selama 10 minit. Tetapi tentukan ayamnya tidak dipanggang sehingga kuahnya kering. Enak diratah panas-panas atau dimakan dengan nasi. Resipi Ayam Percik ni adalah request dari Suhana.     Seri Muka (Pulut sekaya) - Microwave

    LAPISAN BAWAH
    1 cawan beras pulut (boleh rendam 3 jam kalau suka pulut lembut) [air sama paras-utk masak]
    1/2 tin santan,
    1/2 cawan air
    secubit garam

    LAPISAN ATAS
    1/2 tin santan
    7 sudu besar gula menggunung (boleh kurang kalau tak suka manis)
    3 sudu besar tepung gandum
    1/2 cawan air
    perasa pandan secukup rasa/daun pandan
    pewarna hijau jika perlu
    1 biji telur ayam

    cara-cara:
    LAPISAN BAWAH
    1. masukkan pulut dan air separas pulut ke dalam microwave selama 5 minit - high power.
    2. Kemudian, masukkan santain, air dan garam ke dalam pulut dan gaul rata. masukkan ke dalam microwave selama 10 minit -high power
    3. Keluarkan dan gaul rata dan baru ditekan-tekan pulut tersebut.

    LAPISAN ATAS
    1. Blend semua bahan untuk lapisan atas hingga sebati.
    2. tapis, jika menggunakan daun pandan.
    3. Tuang ke dalam bekas pulut yang ditekan [suam/panas].
    4. tutup bekas dengan cling film/atau penutup bekas yang sesuai.
    5. masukkan ke dalam microwave selama 8 minit -high power.
    6. buka penutup/cling film - masukkan kedalam microwave selama 4 minit- high power.
    7. Bila dah sejuk bolehlah potong.

    It's all worth it - Sanah Helwah Ya Bunayyati...Humaira Ardini Hizamel


    Nine Years ago, at about this time, Ummi and abah was beaming with the new founded joy of becoming a parents ourselves. Abah was still recovering from the tiredness of being a cheerleader during the birth process. Though, there is no trace of fatigue in him, I guess the joy did outweigh the effect of sleepless night before. As for me, Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, Allahuakbar.... He pour His mercy and and Bless us with one beautiful and healthy girl any mother could ever ask for. I am thankful. No words could ever describe it.

    Let us recall our life today in UK my dear, InsyaAllah you'll find time to scroll down this mumbling of your old ummi one day in the future, and you would want to find a particular writing that mark your 9th birthday. Ummi might forget most of the memories in that day if I never write them, or maybe Allah knows best, ummi and abah might not be among you all that day, to tell stories and recall memories.

    Being raised in this open country, with open-minded people, sometimes too open that children will end up asking you, how a baby is being born. I remember myself never got to ask this kind of question to my parents.

    And things become easier to explain, when there is actually a very good documentary here on childbirth. 'One born every minute'. We would sit together and watch this documentary. From normal birth, to epidural and to c-section. It's all explained in one series only.

    "Ummi, it must be very difficult and must be very painful? you asked.
    "Yes dear, it is." Ummi answered.

    And do you know dear, I cannot even remember one bit of it, when you hug me, because it's all worth it.

    I cannot even remember the difficulties, when you kiss me, because it's all worth it.

    When I wrap my hand around you, and gather you on my lap, that strong, warm and comfortable feeling erase all the pain and it's all worth it.

    Now, when you come home from school and see me at home and hear your voice calling me, "ummiiiiii..." with all the joy seeing me in your voice, make it all worth it.

    Now, seeing you secretly, calming your sister and brother at the back of the car, when you know ummi had enough of their fighting with each other.... saying in a low volumed voice as if ummi cannot hear it, " shhhhhh, you guys stop fighting.... see ummi is sad.." make it all worth it, you've turned out to be a responsible sister.

    Now, listening to your teacher, saying that you are in the top group of every subjects, you are very sporty, you in fact the only person in class that actually 'google' everything being tought at school - that make me laugh though. Your work is a head of class. She is really proud of you, and she said we must have been really proud of you... in fact dear we always do, regardless, It's all worth it.

    Now, listening to the surah's that you memorized, my heart would want to freeze the moment and tell you, it's all worth it.

    Now, watching you being an Imam in a prayer to your sister and brother after you come home from school, it's like having a cold water in a very hot desert for me, it was all worth it dear darling.

    1 cwn nasi
    2 cwn tepung beras
    1 cwn gula putih
    1 1/4 cwn air
    3 gm yis
    4.3 gm eno (sepeket kecil rm0.70)

    Blend nasi dengan air hingga halus then add sugar, tepung dan yis. Blend hingga sebati. Masuk dlm bekas dan tutup rapat. Perap selama more than 4 hours (semlm perap 5 jam). Selepas tu kacau perlahan dan masukan pewarna jika mau then masukkan eno, kacau sebati perlahan-lahan dan biar another 5 minit. Panaskan kukusan. Masukan dlm cawan2 kecil dan kukus selama 15 minit. emmm sedap dimakan dengan kelapa parut.

    Kuih tepung bunga

    Bahan-bahan:

    500 gram tepung pulut
    3 biji telur ayam
    2 cawan air
    Gula secukupnya
    Garam secukup rasa
    Minyak untuk menggoreng

    Cara Membuat:

    1. Bancuh tepung pulut dengan air hingga membentuk doh. Bentukkan doh sebesar guli dan leperkan .
    2. Panaskan minyak dalam kuali. Pecahkan telur dalam bekas dan pukul rata.
    3. Celupkan adunan tepung tadi dalam bancuhan telur dan goreng sehingga kekuningan. Angkat dan letakkan di atas tisu untuk menyerap minyak.

    Bahan-Bahan
    500 gm tepung pulut
    250 ml santan pekat
    sedikit pewarna merah
    sedikit pewarna hijau
    sedikit garam

    Bahan Inti
    500 gm kacang hijau
    125 gm gula merah
    125gm gula pasir
    sehelai daun pandan

    Cara Memasaknya
    1. Untuk membuat inti, gula merah dan gula pasir dimasak hingga hancur. Tapis kedalam periuk besar.
    2. Kacang hijau direbus dengan air secukupnya. Apabila hampir kembang, masukkan ke dalam air gula dan kacau hingga kering. Sejukkan.
    3. Untuk membuat kulit peria, gaul tepung pulut dengan santan pekat dan garam sehingga sebati. Bahagikan dua bahagian. Satu diwarnakan hijau dan satu lagi merah.
    4. Gentel tepung hijau sebesar bola ping pong kemudian leperkan di atas tapak tangan. Bubuh 1 sudu kecil inti ke dalamnya dan kepalkan semula sebelum dibentukkan seperti buah peria.
    5. Cucuk kulitnya dengan garpu agar menyerupai buah peria. (saya tidak menggunakan garpu tetapi menggunakan sepit untuk menyepit kuih makmur.) Ulang sampai habis. Kukus hingga masak dan angkat.

    Chilli Potatoes - Kak Jeni

    Kentang 500g, rebus dan potong wedges
    4 sdb tepung gandum
    3 sdb tepung jagung
    1 sdt garam
    6-8 cili hijau dibelah 2
    2 sdb bawang putih dicincang
    1 sdb halia dicincang
    1 sdb cili paste
    3 sdb sos tomato
    1 sdb cuka
    1/2 sdt gula
    1/2 sdt serbuk lada putih
    Garam secukup rasa
    6 sdb daun ketumbar
    2 sdb minyak
    Minyak utk menggoreng

    Cara
    1. Campurkan tepung, tepung jagung dan garam tadi dan lumurkan pada kentang yang dah direbus tadi.
    2. Goreng dalam minyak hingga keemasan.
    3. Untuk menyediakan kuah/sos : Satukan cili paste, sos tomato, cuka, gula dan lada putih dalam satu mangkuk. Ketepikan.
    4. Di dalam kuali, panaskan minyak dan tumis bawang putih, halia dan cili hijau. Masukkan kentang yang telah digoreng tadi.
    5. Kemudian masukkan bancuhan sos tadi, kacau dan rasa garamnya. Angkat.
    6. Taburkan daun ketumbar.
    7. Siap.

    Roti Naik - Breadmaker

    Ingredients :


    1 cup lukewarm water
    1 egg yolk (grade A)
    180g sugar
    35g shortening
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    a few drops of yellow food coloring
    500g flour (I added more, I think about 100g more or less)
    3g instant dried yeast
    110g margarine

    1 egg + a bit of fresh milk (for egg wash the buns)
    a bit of butter for glazing

    Bread Maker method :

    1. Pour water, egg, sugar, shortening, vanilla and yellow food coloring into the bread maker pan. Top it with flour and yeast.
    2. Set the breadmaker to Dough function.
    3. Once the dough is just combined, add in margarine. Leave the Breadmaker to continue doing it's job. This process will take about 1 1/2 hour including prooving.
    4. Divide the dough into 20 equal portions. Form each into a ball and arrange on a baking tray.
    5. Cover the buns and let it rise until double in size (it takes another 30-40 min) Brush the buns with some egg wash.
    7. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 200 C 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
    8. Once out of the oven, brush with a bit of butter. Place on a wire rack to cool. Keep in an airtight container.

    Lepat Liat

    2 - 2 1/4 cawan tepung pulut
    3/4 cawan gula merah
    1 cawan air
    sehelai daun pandan
    daun pisang
    1 cawan kelapa parut putih
    sedikit garam
    minyak masak

    Cara membuatnya
    1.Masak gula merah dengan air dan daun pandan -sejukkan
    2.Sediakan kukusan,inti kelapa(kelapa+sikit garam halus) dan daun pisang.
    3.Tepung pulut dicampur dgn secawan air gula yang ditapis dan dikacau sebati
    4.Letakkan sesudu makan adunan di atas daun kelapa yang disapu sikit minyak dan ratakan.Letakkan inti kelapa .Balutkan kuih ini seperti membalut lepat pisang.
    5.Kukuskan lebih kurang 15-20 minit dgn api sederhana.

    • 4 cawan beras basmati
    • 3 cawan air
    • 1 cawan susu cair - xde susu cair, saya buh chicken stock jek
    • 1 biji bawangh besar dihiris
    • 1 sudu besar serbuk jintan manis
    • 1 sudu besar serbuk ketumbar
    • 1 sudu besar minyak sapi
    • 1 cawan sayur campuran
    • garam dan perasa secukupnya

    Cara-cara

    1. Cuci beras dan toskan
    2. Panaskan periuk dan cairkan minyak sapi
    3. Goreng bawang yang dihiris hingga naik bawa dan layu
    4. Masukkan serbuk jintan dan ketumbar
    5. Masukkan beras dan kacau rata
    6. Masukkan susu serta air dan masak nasi hingga nasi agak kering baru masukkan sayuran campur.


    Gulai Ayam Pakistan

    Bahan-bahan ( 6-8 orang )

    • 6-8 ketul ayam or kambing
    • 1 tin plum tomato (bukan tomato puri) - Pakai brand S&W Whole Peel Tomato
    • 1 labu besar bawang (dihiris)
    • 5 biji cili hijau (tambah ikut suka pedas)
    • 50gm daun ketumbar
    • 1 sudu makan serbuk jintan manis
    • 1 sudu makan serbuk ketumbar
    • minyak untuk menumis
    • garam dan perasa secukupnya

    Cara-cara

    1. Bersihkan ayam terlebih dahulu
    2. Blend cili hijau bersama daun korianda/ketumbar
    3. Panaskan minyak dan tumiskan bawang besar hiris hingga naik bau dan layu
    4. Masukkan bahan yang di blend tadi, kacau dan masukkan serbuk jintan dan serbuk ketumbar. Kemudian masukkan plum tomato bersama jus nya sekali.
    5. Lepas tu baru masukkan ayam, garam dan perasa secukupnya...
    6. Masak sampai ayam empuk dengan api perlahan dan kuahnya agak pekat

    Portugese Tart

    Egg tart yg dibuat dgn puff pastry. Takde whipping cream, permukaan tart tu tak jadi hanggus sikit yg sepatutnya. Nanti buat lagi dgn whipping cream akan tukar gambar ni.

    Bahan-bahan ( 6 biji )

    • 1 keping Puff Pastry (Saya guna buatan sendiri)
    • *Bahan-bahan A*
    • 1/4 cawan Gula Halus
    • 1/4 cawan Susu Cair atau Susu Segar
    • 1/4 cawan Whipping Cream
    • 3 biji Telur Kuning
    • 1/4 sudu kecil Vanilla Extract

    Cara-cara

    1. Panaskan oven, 200ÂșC.
    2. Masukkan semua bahan-bahan A dalam mangkuk dan pukul sampai sebati. Ditapis dan diketepikan.
    3. Potongkan puff pastry kepada 6 keping bentuk bulat. Cucuk permukaan puff pastry yg telah dipotong dgn garpu.
    4. Masukkan puff pastry yg dipotong ke dalam tin muffin.
    5. Isilkan campuran telur ke dalam setiap puff pastry 3/4 penuh.
    6. Bakar selama 20 minit. Biar sejuk dalam tin muffin selama 5-10 minit sebelum dikeluarkan.

    Apam beras tanpa ragi

    Bahan-bahan ( 5 org )

    • 2 cwn nasi
    • 2 cwn tepung gandum
    • 2 cwn tepung beras
    • 1 cwn brown sugar
    • 3/4 cwn gula
    • 2 1/2 cwn air
    • 1 sudu kecil yis (mauripan)
    • kelapa parut dgn sedikit garam

    Cara-cara

    1. blend nasi dan air sehingga hancur.
    2. setelah hancur,campur brown sugar dan gula ke dalamnya dan blend sehingga sebati.
    3. dlm bekas lain,satukan tepung gandum,tepung beras dan yis.
    4. selepas itu,masukkan bahan cecair tadi ke dlm bekas tepung. Kacau sehingga sebati (tambah pewarna, jika suka sebelum adunan diperap).
    5. perap selama 3 jam.
    6. masukkan dlm acuan kecil dan kukus selama 15 minit..
    7. hidang bersama kelapa yg telah di gaul dengan sedikit garam..siap!

    Roti Puri - Resipidotnet


    Bahan-bahannya:
    1 kilo tepung gandum
    4 sudu minyak sapi
    1 sudu teh garam
    Air secukupnya untuk menguli
    3 cawan minyak untuk menggoreng
    Cara Membuatnya:
    Panaskan minyak sapi hingga cair. Masukkan ke dalam tepung. Gaul rata dengan senduk (guna tangan...melecur lak nanti). Kemudian masukkan air yang telah dikacau bersama garam secukupnya. Uli hingga jadi macam nak buat doh karipap. Kemudian ambil doh sebesar macam nak buat karipap....canaikan bulat dan nipis (jangan tebal...nanti tak jadi). Panaskan minyak dalam kuali. Masukkan doh yang dicanai nipis tadi. Bila digoreng ia akan naik menggelembung (kalau tak gelembung..tak jadi....kena canai nipis) Balikkan dan bila dah kuning bolehlah angkat ke dalam pinggan yang dialas dengan kertas kitchen.
